B2B SaaS — monthly recurring revenue reporting
The situation. A series-A SaaS company with roughly 400 customers and three different billing systems after an acquisition. Finance was reconciling MRR in a spreadsheet each month and nobody trusted the number.
What we did. Six-week foundation project: pulled all three billing systems into one Postgres warehouse, built a single source-of-truth MRR model in dbt, delivered a Metabase dashboard showing MRR, net new, expansion, contraction, and churn.
Outcome. Monthly close went from six working days to two. The board pack is now a screenshot of the dashboard instead of a spreadsheet.
E-commerce — cohort retention
The situation. A direct-to-consumer brand on Shopify with two years of history. Leadership wanted to know whether their new acquisition channel was producing customers who actually came back.
What we did. Scoped deep dive: pulled order history, built cohort tables keyed on first-order channel, delivered a one-page retention curve by acquisition source.
Outcome. The new channel had 40% lower 180-day repeat rate. The client cut spend on it and re-allocated to a channel that was underweight.
Services firm — utilization reporting
The situation. A 60-person consulting firm with time tracked in Harvest and project assignments in Jira. No consolidated view of billable utilization.
What we did. Foundation engagement, then standard retainer. Delivered a weekly utilization dashboard by team and by project, with a flag for anyone trending below target for three weeks in a row.
Outcome. Caught two under-utilized teams in the first quarter and reorganized assignments.
